Nothing Fancy…

I thought I was being good by buying Pedigree dog food.  I noticed that while she would eat it, she’d only do so in a desultory manner after exhausting all appeals to me while I was eating (she’s definitely a master at begging, although I’m slowly teaching her to stay back from the table).  I bought a small bag of Kibbles and Bits this evening to see if she would like it better.  She definitely liked it a lot more.

I guess I have a lowbrow dog.  smile

My family’s three pound lapdog (picture: http://www.nepentheisland.com/archives/images/Miscellaneous/dog3.jpg) has become a dog food snob. She looks at you like you’re crazy if you try to feed her dog food. Spoiled dog.

I’m trying to prevent the dog from becoming a food snob (and from relying on people food).  It’d be so easy to give in to the dog and give her what I’m eating, but I’m resisting the temptation.  My father used to do that with our dog, who especially loved fig newtons.  Unfortunately, that lead to her becoming a double-wide dog.  It took a lot of time ignoring the pleading looks on her part to get her back down to a normal weight.

My beagle can tell the differences in the bags that the food she likes comes in. She will also pick out just the nuggets that she likes and eat those. However, when she does get hungry enough she will eat the rest. A dog will eat when it gets hungry enough just about anything. I just do not know how to avoid those sad brown eyes when I am eating something I know she likes.

I think Kibbles and Bits must be the doggy equivalent of pizza or a burger…all taste!!  Buster would rather have it than his dog treats
