Taking ‘Em Down

There have been times when I’ve wanted to tackle someone who was talking loudly on a cellphone in a public place, but I think this might be going a bit too far.

Can we talk about talking on cell phones?

The matter has been simmering for years as wireless gabbing takes place in more and more settings. For one woman in the Washington, D.C., area, it came to a head recently when she was arrested, reportedly for speaking too loudly near a bus stop.

According to a story in Tuesday’s Washington Post, a transit police officer thought that the woman was disturbing the peace with loud cell-phone talk and eventually wrestled her to the ground. Police said the woman was cursing into her phone, but she said she cursed after she’d been grabbed, according to the newspaper.

Maybe this will make her realize just how inconsiderate she’s been.

Naw, she has no idea about her rudeness.  She is the VICTIM here, in her mind.  Just minding her own business, talking, then BAM tackled from behind!  Doesn’t she have a Constitutional right to talk on her cell phone?  It’s everyone else’s problem if they overhear her conversation.  That’s an invasion of her privacy!

Actually, I wish the conversations were better around here.  I overhear:  “Uh huh.  Uh huh.  Yeah, huh.  Wow.  Well then I said.  So what did you do?”  I never get like political analysis, phone sex, some argument with a spouse, or any other good stuff.

I heard this story on the radio the other morning.  She’s apparently pregnant, too.  Wrestling visibly pregnant women to the ground over cell phone use.  Aren’t there murders to solve or something?

  3. Outlaw3,

I guess it would be better than the “uh huh” and “ok” I hear, but there are some people who I just don’t want to know about when it comes to sex.  Given my luck, I’d be sitting next to someone like this when they launch into a lurid description of some kinky sex act.

    Bitter,

Wasn’t Washington, DC also the place where a woman was arrested for chewing a candy bar as she entered the subway?

Maybe if DC cops spent more time chasing murderers and less harassing people for eating and talking, perhaps they wouldn’t always be near the top or at the top of the stats for murder.
