Presidential Annoyance

I flew out of the Minneapolis/St. Paul airport yesterday.  My flight was supposed to depart at 12:06pm, but we were slightly over an hour late getting into the air.  Several people on my flight missed their connections at DFW.

Why did we get delayed?  President Bush was in the area and was returning to the airport from the location where he had been speaking.  All incoming and outgoing flights were stopped while he was coming in.

Somehow I don’t think the founders would have approved of the way the President has become near-royalty.  Everywhere he goes people get stepped on by his “security measures”, usually without any warning.

Like this was different with Clinton and his famous haircut at LAX?  Or really most any President since Kennedy was assassinated.

  2. It’s not different.

It didn’t bother me too much, since I usually plan plenty of time for unexpected circumstances when traveling.  I was only mildly annoyed.  However, a lot of people missed connections.

Anyhow, I would have been just as annoyed with Clinton as Bush.

Of course, the founders didn’t have to contend with random assassination attempts from any nutcase.  I think that the tide turned with the assassination of Garfield in 1881.

Not to mention that if they gave you advance notice, they’d be tipping off the rabid moonbat bush haters that their prime target was nearby and would be in a certain place at a particular time…Not something the Secret Servce would be wise to do, don’t you think?
